The film follows Teresa (Brbara Cole), who returns to Bacurau, a semi-arid serto village in Brazil, to attend her grandmother’s funeral. Upon arrival, Teresa immediately notices signs that Bacurau is in trouble. There are no basic amenities, the range of the mobile phone is deteriorating, the water supply is out and the truck with drinking water is full of bullet holes. It soon becomes clear that the corrupt government has abandoned the village altogether: Bacurau is not only literally wiped off the map, but its citizens are also being attacked. If the person in charge closes, the villagers must prepare for organized resistance to avoid major damage.
